Day One

I want to keep a blog.  I have wanted to start blogging for a while now because it seems fun and I have the time.  I have a job with a lot of down time between tasks and I desperately need to fill that time.  I don't know that "I'm bored" is a very good blog topic, but here we are anyway.

This is just going to be a bunch of random shit.  I have some posts I would like to get done with specific interests.  I will probably rant a lot just chat sometimes.

Should we start with an "about me" talk?  Let's do that.


I just turned 30 last week.  Maybe that's not significant, but when you just left your twenties behind, it feels like it is.  I am really into writing, makeup, making my nails pretty.  I envy people who seem naturally artistic.  I also envy people who can sing (without sounding like Scuttle in The Little Mermaid, I mean--I CAN sing, if we're being technical.  And I do, I just have to apologize if anyone has to hear it...).

At any given time I've got pets.  Right now that means three tiny, elderly dogs and a couple of cats.  I'm not a cat person, but I do love my charming boy.  The other cat belongs to the Husband, and probably Satan.  It looks like a gargoyle and we are not friends.

I am 100% obsessed with The Airborne Toxic Event.  It's not the only music I listen to, but it's the only group that consistently makes me fall in love with them.  Even the few songs I don't like, I like enough to keep on my playlist, you know?  I think most of what the songwriter/lead vocalist writes is brilliant, even though I pretty firmly believe if he was someone I'd just met in the real world we would have just fucking hated each other.  It's weird.  Listen to them, though.  They're incredible.



I bounce between wanting to be friendly and accepting all the time, and wanting to really stand up for what I believe no matter how many people it alienates.  It's tricky to find a middle ground, but I've gotten better (I subjectively believe so, at least).

If some pretentious author were critiquing this for me, they would probably complain that this is all show versus tell, so I guess you can get to know the rest if you stick around and keep reading. :)
